Long Island LEADS to Host 4th Annual 'SLIME'-Students of Long Island Maker/ STEAM Expo

It’s spring, and it’s time for our 4th annual SLIME – Students of Long Island Maker/STEAM Expo. SLIME is the only conference in the NY area for the entire community to celebrate innovation and creativity in education. In just 3 years our event has doubled in size, and this year we expect 1,000 participants to join us on June 16th at SUNY Stony Brook including students, educators, libraries, museums, nonprofit organizations, educational companies, civic associations, artisans, entrepreneurs, government entities, and other community members.

Long Island LEADS (the producer of SLIME) is a nonprofit organization that promotes STEAM education, the maker movement, and hands-on learning for all students. Long Island LEADS is a founding member of the Nation of Makers. We have participated in the National Maker Faire in Washington, D.C., the World Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science, and the Barnes & Noble Mini Maker Faire. Schools, libraries, museums, civic associations, nonprofit organizations, and government entities are invited to present at SLIME.

Companies are welcome to support SLIME at various sponsorship levels. More details are available here.

A partnership with Long Island LEADS continues year round. Maker Meetups are opportunities to discuss and learn about topics such as coding, community service learning, and design thinking.

Last October we sponsored a Long Island Maker Town Hall as an opportunity to convene key stakeholders on Long Island to discuss the role of the Maker Movement as it relates to areas such as education, entrepreneurship, workforce development, manufacturing, community revitalization, and community-based problem solving.

This year the Long Island Administrators Innovation in Education Think Tank will meet to discuss ways that districts can work together for the benefit of our children. This first meeting of the minds will be led by Dr. Michael J. Hynes of Patchogue-Medford School District at SLIME. We look forward to seeing you at SLIME!
