Boys’ Dance Classes Now Offered at Ballet Muscle

Ballet Muscle was founded six years ago by Peter Cirolia, a former dancer with the New York City Ballet and kinesiology specialist, with the goal of offering professional ballet training in Westchester. Modeled off of the School of American Ballet, says Cirolia, the studio teaches foundational ballet technique, what it takes to build up to a professional performance level–as opposed to simply learning choreography for recital.

Starting this past September, Ballet Muscle launched its new boy ballet training program, the only of its kind in Westchester. Boys and girls are taught ballet in a completely different fashion, and use completely different muscles, explains Cirolia. Boys must build deep-tissue muscle fibers, balance, and alignment specific to jumping, while girls focus on turns, spins, and eventually dancing en pointe. The boys’ classes emphasize strength and masculinity. Even the music is different; the boys train to powerful percussion music.

Classes are offered as a series of 10, hour-long classes, and parents are invited to observe the final class. A series costs $350. The boys’ class is held Wednesdays at 4:30pm, and the girls’ held on Mondays at 4:30pm and Saturdays at 12pm. Adult classes and training is also offered. There is a 10-student maximum per class. To enroll, download the registration forms on the Ballet Muscle website, and bring to the studio.
