Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum Announces Kids Week in February

Over 30 partners are participating in a themed week of fun, educational programming during NYC public school winter break.


The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will host its annual Kids Week festival from Sunday, Feb. 17–Saturday, Feb. 23. During Kids Week, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in dozens of fun-filled activities, live animal shows, hands-on workshops, musical performances, special guests and interactive demonstrations that the whole family will enjoy.

This year, the Kids Week theme is Full STEAM Ahead where science, technology, engineering, arts, math and fun take center stage. Through themed daily activities, kids can explore space and science, engage with the arts and music and learn all about animals.

Sunday, Feb. 17 and Monday, Feb. 18, Kids Week will explore arts and music fun. Kids can make their own musical instrument and puppet, learn origami and solve some out-of-the-box problems with Rosie Revere, Engineer & Friends. Tuffy the Tiger will also be performing and families can blow some unbelievable bubbles with the Gazillion Bubble Show.

Tuesday, Feb. 19 through Thursday, Feb.  21, families can discover a safari and nature adventure. Kids will have the opportunity to meet animal ambassadors from around the world including a kangaroo, bearded dragon, tortoise, and more. Families can learn all about primates, fossilized ants, polar bears and the oyster population in New York Harbor.

Friday, Feb.  22 and Saturday, Feb.  23, kids will explore space and science. Families can catch a glimpse of the Space Camp experience. There will be Mad Science shows and a flight simulation video game. Kids can also learn about the building components of a model rocket and the science behind basic flight and rocketry.

Special guests include Jarod Miller, a zoologist and naturalist who has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Conan O’Brien, along with his amazing animals, Sesame Street and Paw Patrol activities, a performance from the Broadway musical King Kong, former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino, and a lineup of scientists and characters including Snoopy!

Kids Week programming partners include Dazzling Discoveries, Puppetry Arts Theater, OrigamiUSA, Show-Score, El Museo, New York Road Runners, Story Pirates Workshop and Theater Show, Rube Goldberg, Theaterworks USA, Tuffy the Tiger, Gazillion Bubble Show, Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, Stamford Museum & Nature Center, Two by Two Zoo, Billion Oyster Project, Sprout Up NYC, the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, Wildlife Theater Group, The Climate Museum, Animal Embassy, the Bronx Zoo, Wild Encounters, the Central Park Zoo, New York City Audobon, the New York Aquarium, Jupiter Joe's Sidewalk Astronomy, The Museum of Interesting Things, CUNYSAT-1 Lab, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Kerbal Space Academy, the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, the Space Telescope Science Institute, Mad Science, American Society of Civil Engineers, Columbia Space Initiative, Teachers in Space, and more!

In addition, Intrepid Museum educators will lead live demonstrations, planetarium presentations and performances throughout each day.

All Kids Week activities are free with museum admission.
