Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts Now Offering Uniquely U Scholarship

The scholarship will cover a full summer tuition at Usdan.

Calling all artists! Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts is now accepting applications for its Uniquely U scholarship. Open for kids ages 7-18 and in grades 2-12 currently residing in New York City, Southern Westchester, or Long Island, this scholarship will cover the full tuition for all seven weeks of camp: July 1 to August 16. The deadline to Apply is Feb. 15.

To apply to the Uniquely U scholarship, all students must submit a five-minute video response to the question: “what makes you uniquely you?” Additional application requirements are dependent upon the student’s specialization and interest. Those interested in the performing arts, including singers, musicians and dancers, must include a performance along with their video. Kids interested in the visual arts must submit up to five images of their work. Those interested in creative writing must submit a writing sample of no more than 5,000 words.

“What we’re really looking for is passion, creativity and individuality,” says Executive Director Lauren Brandt Schloss. “It’s not based on skill alone. They have to be able to express themselves through the art form.”

Sprawled across 140 woodland acres in Wheatley Heights, Usdan offers three-week, four-week, and seven-week summer programs for kids in Pre-K to grade 12. The camp is structured much like a university. Upon selecting a major and a minor, students attend classes across five art disciplines – art, creative writing, dance, music and theater – and three non-art disciplines – chess, nature and recreational arts. Each day is composed of five periods: two for major classes, one for a minor class, and one for a recreational activity. With a renowned staff made up of professional musicians, award-winning artists, and graduates of The Julliard School of Music and the Pratt Institute, Usdan is serious about helping their students hone their artistic skills.
