The Discovery of King Tut Opens at Premier Exhibitions Fifth Avenue By Samantha Neudorf November 20, 2015 Get kid-friendly activities sent to you! Subscribe The Discovery of King Tut is the latest exhibit on display at Premier Exhibitions 5th Avenue, where visitors will learn all about King Tutankhamun and how his tomb was discovered. The two-floor, traveling exhibit features exact reconstructions of what archeologists dug up in Egypt. The entire exhibition includes an audio tour, which takes visitors through the interactive journey of Howard Carter, the main archeologist that discovered King Tut’s tomb in November 1922. Coffins in the Burial Chamber Visitors first watch a 10-minute show to preface Carter’s story, then move on to the exhibition room, where they are immersed into the lead-up to Carter’s discoveries. The exhibit creators reconstructed the Antechamber, Burial Chamber, and Treasury Room exactly how it was found, based on Carter’s diaries. On the bottom floor, visitors get to see recreations of King Tut’s treasures, including gold coffins, jewelry, furniture, his chariot, the golden throne that he sat on as king. King Tut's golden throne Kids are able to get up close and touch the recreated artifacts and are able to better understand how King Tut was discovered. “It’s theatrical,” Mark Lach, Premier Exhibtions’ creative director, said. “It’s the feeling of being with Howard Carter and showing how [the tomb] was discovered.” Lach recommends that children view the throne and chariot to get a sense of what it was like to be King Tut.
