The Cathedral School to Add New Science Program

The Cathedral School will soon offer a hands-on and cross-curricular science program for students in kindergarten to fourth grade.

The Cathedral School will soon offer Full Option Science System, a hands-on and cross-curricular science program with writing and reading for students in kindergarten to fourth grade. The new science program is scheduled to start at the day school in Lenox Hill on Nov. 9.

As part of FOSS, students will get to do more scientific investigations inside and outside of the classroom. The goal of the program is to give students more in-depth understanding and long-term retention of core ideas, says Kristine Cecere, the head of school.

The Cathedral School is a small, independent, coeducational nursery to eighth grade day school rooted in the principles of Hellenism. It strives to offer a rigorous academic education in a nurturing learning environment. The student to teacher ratio at present is about six to one.

“It’s a very nurturing environment where not only do our students get into the very best private and public high schools, but our students have been credited with being very personable, outgoing, and nice people," Cecere says.

Additionally, The Cathedral School has continued to enhance their balance literacy program and they’ve conducted a scope and sequence in nursery to eighth grade. The Cathedral School has also integrated technology into all areas including the introduction of Google classroom into their kindergarten to fourth grade grade classes.

According to its mission statement, The Cathedral School "integrates the most up-to-date education methods in its curriculum and pedagogical approach while adhering to the tradition of paideia, which views education as character formation, responsibility, and the pursuit of excellence."
