Luna Park at Coney Island is Reopening This Friday

Beginning April 9, Luna Park at Coney Island will be open weekends at limited capacity. Here's what you need to know.

Luna Park at Coney Island is officially opening at 33 percent capacity this Friday, April 9 at 11:30am. The park has been closed for an entire year (since October 2019) due to COVID-19, and is excited to welcome back guests in a safe, socially distanced way.

The park is welcoming six new rides on opening day, with expectations to introduce more later in the season. To kick off the grand reopening for the 2021 season, the traditional "egg cream christening" of the Coney Island Cyclone will begin at 11am. The park will be open on that Friday from 11:30am-7:30pm, and Saturdays and Sundays going forward from 11am-7pm.

Safety measures will be taken to keep visitors safe while visiting Luna Park, including:

  • Physical distancing through reduced (33- percent) capacity
  • Controlled admissions online and at the gate
  • Distanced eating and ride seating (rides that are unable to be socially distanced will be closed)
  • Frequent cleaning of high-touch areas
  • Hand sanitizing stations at every ride
  • Mask requirements for all guests older than two years old

“It is incredibly exciting to finally have Luna Park in Coney Island filled with guests and joy after a very challenging year,” said Alessandro Zamperla, president and CEO of Central Amusement International Inc. "We are tremendously grateful for all of our frontline workers, the heroes who have saved countless lives and continue to help our community heal; for all of our team members who have been waiting since October 2019 to welcome back our guests; and for our community that is so vibrant and resilient.”
