Winter Wildlife Tracks Workshop

WHEN: Feb. 4 - 5, 2-3:30pm
WHERE: Wave Hill House, 4900 Independence Ave, The Bronx, NY

WHAT:

Together with Family Art Project staff, explore Wave Hill's diverse animal tracks. Discover through close observation animal signs in the woodlands to gain knowledge about the living things in our environment. Practice investigation skills on a walk-through of the Conifer Slope to learn about incredible creature adaptations. Then using natural materials, explore animal tracks through print making. Ages six through ten are welcome with an adult. Hibernators Weekend event. Participants meet in Wave Hill House's Sarah and Geoffrey Gund Theater on the House's lower level. Family Art Project: Hibernators’ Dreams

WHEN: Feb. 4 - 5, 10am–1pm
WHERE: Wave Hill House, 4900 Independence Ave, The Bronx, NY

WHAT:

Create a mask to mimic hibernating groundhogs, bats, turtles and more. Decorate it with seeds as you think about dormancy and how seeds need time for sleep. Take your newly created mask and collaborate on a dreamy tale of what it means to rest in winter. Hibernators Weekend event. Registration not required. The program takes place indoors in the Kerlin Learning Center located on the lower level of Wave Hill House. Please note the following important COVID-related information to ensure everyone's safety: Approximately nine families will be able to participate at a time, based on the time each family arrives. If capacity is full when you arrive, you will be provided with a "come back" card so you will have first entry for the next session. Each family will receive its own set of materials and cleaning will happen in between seating participants. Unvaccinated visitors are encouraged to wear a mask inside. Wave Hill House is located along a paved route with moderate changes in grade. The building is wheelchair-accessible. There is an accessible, ground-level entrance at the front of the building with a power-assist door. The restroom on the ground level is all-gender and ADA-compliant. Additional ADA-compliant restrooms are available on the lower level, which can be accessed by elevator.

Cozy up in the hibernators? reading nook with books, puzzles, and puppets. Hunt for sleeping creatures in a self-guided game and enjoy some down-time between activities. Hibernators Weekend event. Meet the Animals: Cold-blooded Creature Double-feature

Discover the amazing- and sometimes strange- adaptations that allow cold-blooded animals to survive harsh winters. With live animal ambassadors from the Tenafly Nature Museum, learn about a variety of body coverings, and the relationship between their needs and the places they live. An environmental educator from the Museum reveals strategies that cold-blooded creatures, including snakes and turtles, use to survive both cold and warm temperatures. Gain a respect for reptiles and amphibians while discovering how people are similar to, and different from, each species. Appropriate for ages six and older with an adult companion. Hibernators Weekend event. This event meets in Wave Hill House's Armor Hall, located on the ground floor of the House. Registration not required. Space is limited. Questions? Audience-style seating will be set up with space allowing for distancing and wheelchair access. Instructors will use amplification and move around the room throughout the presentation. Tenafly Nature Center is a non-profit, independent, member-supported nature preserve located in Bergen County, New Jersey. Since 1961, TNC has nurtured an appreciation for nature, and been a leader in open-space preservation and environmental education for our community and beyond.

Doktor Kaboom And The Wheel of Science

Join environmental educator Corinne Flax as she guides children and their partners through a sequence of gentle poses that are sure to help even the wildest of animals settle down.
