White Plains Hospital is hosting, See, Test and Treat, a day of free cancer screenings and health education for uninsured and under insured women. Appointments are required for exams. Run Wild

Run Wild is back with a bang, offering another exciting 1.25-mile forest run and obstacle course through this stunning preserve. During the run you’ll get to navigate the breathtaking forest trails, surrounded by nature’s wonders, as you push your limits and conquer thrilling obstacles. From climbing walls and balance beams to rope challenges and belly crawls, get ready to unleash your inner wild side at the Greenburgh Nature Center! Best for ages 5-15 but parents are highly encouraged to run too. This is a rain or shine event!

2023 Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival FREE

WHAT:

This year’s Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival will be the largest one yet, with 180 authors in attendance and celebrity authors Mary Pope Osborne and Alan Gratz leading the charge. Meet new writers like Alex Gino and reconnect with returning authors like Bryan Collier. Admission and parking are free and the event will be held rain or shine. In its tenth year, the annual festival, promoting community, inclusivity and literacy will have authors covering different reading levels and multiple genres including a larger selection of graphic novels than in years past, LGTBQ themes, and books that celebrate diversity. There will be author readings and special presentations, illustrator Demos, Book Signings, a bubble bus, and books for sale. Food will be available this year from gourmet food trucks and from our local Chappaqua Farmers Market. CCBF will support literacy programs in area schools.

Some of your favorite authors are returning this year including Torrey Maldonado, who just released his newest book, “Hands,” picked as one of the “12 of the best new children’s books out in January 2023” and author of “What Lane,” which was cited by Oprah and the New York Times for being an essential book to discuss racism. Fan favorite Pinkalicious author Victoria Kahn, also returns this year as well as Sonia Cherry-Paul, Author of Stamped (For Kids), a very important adaptation of the New York Times best seller, introducing kids to the history of racism and antiracism in America.

Several authors will be there this year who are new to CCBF such as Mary Pope Osborne, author of the Magic Tree House series, Alan Gratz, New York Times best selling author of 19 young children’s novels, and Maulik Pancholy, well known actor from NBC’s 30 Rock and award-winning children’s book author. Mr. Pancholy recently launched his newest novel, Nikhil Out Loud and his previous book, middle grade novel, The Best At It, is a Stonewall Honor Award winner.

Mamaroneck Monarch Butterfly Festival FREE

Join the flutter of activity at Harbor Island Park with Village of Mamaroneck Committee for the Environment together with the Parks and Recreation Department for The 2nd Annual Mamaroneck Monarch Butterfly Festival. Handcrafted Octoberfest

This open-air event honors harvest time and slips in a few Germanic traditions, but is centered around the concept of handmade. And there’s something for every generation, taste and taste bud, from the Hudson Valley’s best craft beer, wine and spirits to one-of-a-kind goods by the nation’s finest makers and artisans, to seasonal grub, live musical performances and expert-led harvest activities. The festival offers a carefully curated collection of handmade goods in over ten media categories, complimented by a diverse selection of autumnal extras: fine art pumpkin carving by a nationally-acclaimed master of the niche craft, one of the STATE’S largest pumpkins (likely weighing in over 1,700 pounds), an educational petting zoo and animal show, family lawn games, carriage rides, craft demonstrations (fiber-spinning, woodworking and more), a drop-off children’s craft tent (with programming and creative free play), and ongoing live music.

In Nicolas Roeg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book “The Witches,” Helga and her young grandson Luke stumble upon a witches convention led by the Grand High Witch (Anjelica Huston) who wants to turn children into mice.

This film screens as a part of JBFC series: JBFC Kids welcoming a new generation of viewers and their families into our community of cinema lovers and media-makers. This series is presented in partnership with Westchester Library System.

Gilded Age Glenview: Historic Home Tour

Glenview is an 1877 home on the National Register of Historic Places, designed by architect Charles W. Clinton. Explore the six fully restored period rooms on a guided tour and see the fine woodwork, furnishings, artwork, and magnificent architectural features that rank it as one of the most important early Gilded Age residences open to the public. Don’t miss the chance to see Yonkers’s favorite 24-room dollhouse, Nybelwyck Hall, decorated with miniature floral bouquets.

Glenview appears in HBO’s The Gilded Age, the popular Emmy Award–winning series from Julian Fellowes, creator of Downton Abbey.

The 2023 Support-A-Walk for Breast and Ovarian Cancer, presented by Support Connection, Inc. will take place on Sunday, Oct. 1. Participants are welcome to walk at FDR State Park, or in their own communities nationwide. Proceeds provide funding for Support Connection’s year-round breast, ovarian and gynecological cancer support services, which have helped thousands of people since the organization was founded in 1996. It’s easy to participate. Walk with family, friends, neighbors, co-workers. Ask others to contribute by creating an online fundraising page.

Broadway Fright Night: A Haunting Celebration of Sci-Fi Musicals
