Challenge Camp in Hartsdale is Offering More than 40 New Classes This Summer

The popular Westchester day camp has a variety of new programs for kids this summer, ranging from Fortnite to Edison Robotics.

This summer, Challenge Camp in Hartsdale will offer 40 new classes to kids ages 4-15, bulking up their repertoire with offerings that cater to each child's unique passions. Camps will be held in 3- and 4-week sessions. Challenge Camp has been around in Westchester for 39 years, and directors Carole and Marc Berman are always building session schedules based on life experiences—whether it be an emoji class based on a Museum of Modern Art exhibit or an American Ninja Warrior class developed because of a grandchild's obsession with the show.

“We’re most excited about our Fortnite class,” Marc Berman said. “Our escape room class has been very popular, our DJing class, our virtual reality class…Those are going to be some of our most popular classes this summer.”

New class additions sure to make a splash include 3D Printing Unleashed, Climate Control, Doodlematic Game Maker, Edison Robotics, Fantastic Beasts and How to Make Them, Graphic Design Studio, Platform 9-3/4, Spy Kids, and theater productions of Annie and The Legend of Mulan.

Challenge Camp 2019’s first session runs June 27–July 26, and session 2 runs July 29–Aug. 16. Campers can attend both sessions to stay challenged all summer long.

Carole Berman started Challenge Camp in 1981 in order to provide Westchester with a camp that would enrich children’s lives. Camp senior staff specializes in the arts and STEM and teach a wide range of classes. Challenge Camp also has an exchange program that allows students from Shanghai, China to come to Challenge Camp, stay with host families, and take classes.

There are a couple things that make us different. It’s the variety, it’s the extended outlook,” Carole Berman said. “There’s always something special happening at Challenge Camp.”
