With summer fast approaching, many parents are looking for places where they can spend family time while also unwinding from a tough day or week. Well, look no further than a nearby, family-friendly beer garden, where you can sip some local brews, listen to music, and enjoy some tasty treats—and the kids are welcome to come too! Luckily, our area has plenty of kid-friendly beer gardens to check out in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester and Rockland counties. Located near the north end of Central Park, families can come in to listen to some live music on Saturdays and Sundays while trying out some tasty treats from the establishment’s unique menu. Of course, there is also an impressive selection of craft beers and wine.

Berry Park is a soccer fan’s delight, with the beer garden often showcasing live international matches and, of course, presenting the World Cup when it airs. Bridgeview Tavern offers a rotating selection of the finest American craft beers to go, but you can also stay awhile since there is outdoor and limited indoor seating. Not into beer? Choose from one of Bridgeview’s specialty cocktails and order from its extensive menu. The venue doesn’t take reservations, though, so be sure to get there early.

Broken Bow Brewery

Even dogs are welcome at this family-run micro-brewery, which has plenty of outdoor seating. Its 1951 Chevy Beer Truck will start serving brews soon and various food trucks will be on hand throughout the summer, as well as a farmer’s market.

With two beer gardens there’s room for everyone at J.P. Doyles, serving up cans and 10 beers on draft, as well as frozen drinks and margaritas. The menu includes the standard fare of burgers, salads, and wings, as well as a kids’ menu. Every Tuesday is Tacos & Trivia Tuesday and there’s also a Sunday brunch. Reservations are recommended.

Located near Harriman State Park, Seven Lakes Station is a great place to refuel after a hike or bike ride. It offers 14 local and specialty taps on rotation and rare craft beers to go, and also serves a variety of food including sandwiches, soups, and delicious snacks.

BrewSA makes its beer in its own facility, offering a wide range of premium craft brews, which are regularly on tap, as well as seasonal brews. While the only food it sells is pretzels, there are plenty of restaurants along Freeport’s Miracle Mile. And BrewSA donates 25 percent of profits to Veterans Charities.

Great South welcomes families seven days a week (dogs are also permitted any day except Saturdays). The location boasts a large taproom, and guests can play darts and cornhole. Food trucks are on-site to serve various fares. 

Harbor Head Brewing Company

Although Harbor Head doesn’t serve food, it is conveniently located on the town’s Main Street, so there are plenty of places to grab a bite. There is also a large patio in the back, so families can relax while Mom and Dad try out the brews.

Port Jeff Brewing Company

Located in the heart of Port Jefferson, the brewery features a seven-barrel system capable of producing 217 gallons (about 86 cases) per brew. There is a summer concert series every Wednesday night during the summer months. Concerts are free, open to all ages, and held rain or shine.
