Mothers are special every day of the year, but Mother’s Day (May 13) reminds us to take the time to thank these important people. Following are some ways to show your appreciation to your mother, grandmother, aunt, or another special woman in your family.
Before the Big Day…
Jill’s Ceramics hosts Mother’s Day Gift Workshops on May 1, 7, and 8 at 12pm for toddlers and May 4 and 11 at 3pm for artists of all ages. Choose from a variety of plates, mugs, jewelry boxes, and more to make your own unique gift for Mom.

Spread Your Wings
Spring is a time of rebirth, and butterflies are the perfect symbol of the season as they emerge from their cocoons to spread their new wings. Check out some of these colorful creatures and the lovely flowers that attract them when the Bergen County Zoo opens its Butterfly Exhibit on May 24. The zoo is small but has a noteworthy collection of animals and is adjacent to a carousel, playground, and pony rides. The total experience is worth the trip across the state border for families with little ones.

Out to Discover
Take your kids on a treasure hunt along one of the Discovery Quest Trails at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center in Cornwall. Quests depart each weekend throughout the month.
