Debi's Dance, a dance school and studio in Suffern, is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. On June 26, former students from the past three decades will come together to celebrate this milestone with owner Debi Klein at the Chalet in Suffern.
In addition, Debi's Dance will host its 35th anniversary recital in June, featuring current students. The school traditionally hosts two recitals per year, one in June and another in December.
For Klein, celebrating with her students is the most important part of this landmark event. "We have 225 kids in the studio, but it's not a factory," Klein says. "The teachers and students have a great rapport with each other and the teachers know their students' names." Klein says she believes this approach is what sets her studio apart from others.
Since her school has operated for 35 years in Rockland County, Klein now teaches the children of some of her former students, and two of her former students are now dance teachers at the studio. "To think that I've made an impact on kids for this long is a very special thing for me to celebrate," she says.
Debi's Dance offers dance instruction for all ages. Classes for kids start at age 3. Dance styles include ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, lyrical, and combination classes, which teach the essential basics and techniques of dance. Klein herself still teaches 14 classes a week, alongside her team of certified dance teachers.
